|A little history about me and Jambalaya & Co.|
|Hey every one my name is Burt Kemp and I thought it might be a good idea to tell you a little something about me. I was born in Gulfport, MS and raised in New Orleans, LA. In 1985 I moved to Slidell, LA just north of New Orleans. I have a wonderful wife, Beverly and two great children, Burt and Stephanie. Stephanie is Married to George and they recently had our first grandson Little George. I have three little sisters, Kay, Gretchen, and Priscilla that are also great cooks.
I am told by my mother, Kathleen that I started cooking when I was very young with her and her father Pops. She tells me that Pops could cook anything. I can tell you that my mother is a great cook. Now as for my dad, Burton he did show me, that I can remember, a little about boiling seafood. However we had a friend, Nat that I think I remember him doing most of the boiling. Now one thing that I do know was that my dad taught me how not to Bar-B-Que, he has a tendency to under cook everything, especially chicken. Now he and I spent alot of time hunting, fishing, and shrimping so naturally when we would get back to camp we ate what we caught. I have been cooking, I can remember, since I was around 12 or 13. We always had people over to Bar-B-Que and cook seafood outdoors. When my partents moved to Bay St Louis, MS this became an every weekend affair. I have always enjoyed this type of atmosphere, cooking, eating, talking, drinking, visiting, and listening to music. I am sure that this is what has led me to what I am doing now, and that is what we offer to everyone with our special on site services. I was always the one who cooked and I have always enjoyed doing it. Beverly always tells me its the party that I like and she is right to an extent, but that is only part of it. It really is everything all wrapped up in one big party. I feel that I have been blessed by God to have this opportunity and that I am lucky enough to be able to share it with everyone.
I started Jambalaya & Co. in June of 2000 and I feel blessed that I have been able to feed as many people as I have over the years. I truley feel that God wants me to feed the masses and if you follow some of my cooking that is exactly what I do. I do a lot of cooking for churches, schools, military, fire departments, police, and just about any other non-profits. I started out cooking Cajun Jambalaya which I started cooking when I was a teenager after entering in the Jambalaya Festival eating contest. I have worked on my recipe for a number of years and I feel it is one of the best anywhere. To me cooking is personal, I feel that is part of our personality, every bodies cooking should be different. I don't want my Gumbo to taste like anyone elses Gumbo. This is what makes us different from every body else. When I am cooking I like to get the freshes and finest ingredients, because if I don't like the way it taste I won't serve it. I have learned a lot about cooking in my life but it always amazes me that I am constantly learning more every day. I do alot of cooking for Churches and other non-profits because I feel that I need to give in order to receive. I believe that I have this gift that God wants me to use to help feed the masses, or as I always say, Feed The Five Thousand, which we do every Thanksgiving with Habitat at Aldersgate Church..

We specialize in Cajun and Creole Cuisine but we can also prepare almost any dish that you might want. I don't use published prices because I prefer to customize your special event for you. In the past I have found that this is works out better and it helps make sure that you get everything that you want.
